There are a lot of wonderful features on Bandcamp. One of them is the statistics page where I can see what people are listening to...but not only that...I can see how people are listening...It's obviously anonymous so don't worry.

So when I released the Aftonland album and put Vox Humana track as the listening track I realized that very few people listened to the whole thing which in this busy world is perfectly understandable but considering how Vox Humana was written you are sort of missing the point. It's a bit like fast forwarding in Memento or doing an Escher jigsaw puzzle in the dark.

Vox Humana is mainly a choir piece built around four lines. The first line is in 16/4 divided in four modules. The second one is in 15/4 and the third is in 14/4. The last one is in 8/4.
So what happens is that you have a piece of music that is constantly changing within the parts and constructing new chords throughout the piece and never repeating itself. This means that you can follow one line throughout the piece when you are listening and seeing how everything is changing around it. Or choose a different line or listen to the whole piece at once.

Also as nothing is looped and everything is played every single line or phrase will be slightly different so even within every line there is constant movement.

To put it bluntly...Vox Humana is the most ambitious and difficult piece I've ever done. And a big part of that is trying to make something that is fairly complex sound easy and listenable.

As usual I couldn't have done it without an amazingly patient cast of musicians. Tiger, Åsa and Anna sang the four different parts. Martin played Oboe and Cor Anglais, Hampus played grand Piano, Celeste and tremolo guitar, Ulf played Tuba, Bass trumpet, contrabass trumpet and trumpet, Stina Hellberg-Agback played Harp and David Keller played Cello.

Have a listen and try doing it all in one sitting...It's actually worth it.
